FREE Pre-K Assessment

We wanted a more streamlined assessment for our classes this year, so here it is! It has two options You can download this FREE assessment below!

I’m so excited for you to have this Pre-K assessment so you can see your students’ growth, mastery, or need for intervention!

I’ve been teaching for 13 years, and finding ways for each student to experience success is one of my favorite things to do. Having a good assessment tool is the thing you can do to increase student mastery in your pre-k classroom.

You can document data on this assessment in a variety of ways. I simply mark a check for each Letter/Number ID, Sound, color, and shape that a student gets correct without prompting. I write in the counting numbers for the rote and 1:1 counting. For the name writing, I would cover the previous names written so you know they are writing from memory.

There are 2 options provided: BOY/EOY and BOY/MOY/EOY

You have an assessment completed. Now what?

  1. Have a standard plan for teaching these skills. Here are my top favorite ways to see student mastery of pre-k skills:

The Letter a Day Phonics Program has been a total game changer in my 4-5 year olds learning their letters and letter sounds. I have had a majority of students sounding out words and reading decodable texts by mid year since we started using this! This program is included in the 4 year old curriculum below.

2. Incorporate modifications to this plan to accommodate your students below your expectations and students above your expectations.  Here is my favorite centers and 1:1 teacher time for differentiating student learning:

I love this Beginning Basics Leveled Reading Program because the centers are designed to build Literacy skills that progress from letter ID to letter sounds to sounding out words. This is based on level AA reading skill goals.
